(b. 1971 )
At age 37, actress Christina Applegate was diagnosed with breast cancer and learned she had a BRCA1 mutation. Using her celebrity as a platform from which to educate others, she was open about her experiences with mastectomies, reconstruction, and breast cancer therapy, and has since started a foundation, Right Action 4 Women, that funds breast MRIs for patients who have a high risk for breast cancer but can’t afford the test. If you haven’t yet seen the movies, Hall Pass or Anchorman 2, see them. Applegate is a brilliant actress, and, even after surviving cancer, remains as radiant as ever.
